At the Fourth China International Supply Chain Expo (CISCE), which opened in Beijing on June 22, Swedish company Alfa Laval made its debut in the Clean Energy Chain section as the first exhibitor from Sweden. Leveraging more than 140 years of technological expertise and over four decades of operations in China, the company presented a range of innovative technologies and solutions designed to support low-carbon transformation across entire industrial chains.

Dawid Olszewski, managing director of Alfa Laval China and president of Alfa Laval Greater China, told China.org.cn that the company is committed to helping customers improve energy efficiency and promoting the green and low-carbon transformation of industrial chains through its core technologies.

Full industrial-chain capabilities boost local competitiveness

According to Olszewski, Alfa Laval's long-standing strengths in heat transfer, separation and fluid handling technologies have provided a solid foundation for its growth in China. Since entering the Chinese market in 1984, the company has steadily expanded its local operations and localized production of multiple product lines.

"We are on every stage of the supply chain. From the production of the raw materials through the processing and then distribution, we supply our technologies to help our customers to be more efficient and to decarbonize the whole supply chain," he said, adding that the company will continue serving Chinese customers from a full industrial-chain perspective.

Low-carbon solutions highlighted across three key industries

At this year's expo, Alfa Laval focused on the energy, marine, and food and beverage sectors, presenting technologies and solutions aimed at supporting low-carbon transformation.

In the energy sector, the company highlighted solutions for industrial wastewater treatment, helping industries move toward zero-liquid-discharge and more efficient water use. It also showcased heat exchangers manufactured using clean energy. From steel to gasket components, sustainability principles have been incorporated throughout the production process, enabling their wide application across industrial sectors.

For the marine sector, Alfa Laval displayed solutions supporting a range of alternative fuels, including ammonia, liquefied natural gas, liquefied petroleum gas, biofuels and methanol. The company has participated in several pioneering industry projects involving ammonia- and methanol-fueled vessels, helping shipowners and shipbuilders accelerate their green and low-carbon transformation.

In the food and beverage sector, Alfa Laval demonstrated technologies that help reduce water and energy consumption by optimizing production processes. Alfa Laval's Revos technology, for example, can significantly lower beverage transportation costs while improving resource efficiency.

"In every industry we have something to offer," Olszewski said. "Together with our customers, we can define other areas where we can help them achieve their sustainability goals."

Committed to long-term development in China

Reflecting on the company's strategy in China, Olszewski noted that Alfa Laval has been operating in the country for 42 years and has built a significant local manufacturing presence.

Olszewski said that sustainability is a long-term undertaking and that achieving ambitious emissions-reduction and net-zero goals for 2050 or 2060 requires close collaboration among all stakeholders. He noted that many technological pathways are still being explored and that Alfa Laval is working with partners across different stages of the value chain to support the production and efficient use of green energy. But it is not just energy, Olszewski explained — their work includes the use of all resources like water, heating and cooling.

As a participant in the Clean Energy Chain section of CISCE, Alfa Laval is aligning its Nordic technological strengths with China's commitment to achieving peak carbon emissions and carbon neutrality. The company says it looks forward to expanding cooperation with partners and contributing to the global green transition.

The Fourth CISCE is being held in Beijing from June 22-26. This year's event features six major industrial chains — Digital Technology, Advanced Manufacturing, Green Agriculture, Healthy Life, Smart Vehicle and Clean Energy — along with a Supply Chain Service exhibition area. A total of 676 leading enterprises, specialized and innovative companies, and industry organizations from 85 countries, regions and international organizations are participating.
